[TenTec] One complicated radio!

OK, Just my experience...
No, you really cant use the radio out of the box.
Well, maybe if the bands were real quiet (unlike present days with the Sun 
going nuts on us and the cycle going downhill).

The noise level with the defaults is real high. When  I first fired it up I 
thought there was something wrong with the radio. Turned my Icom 746 PRO on to 
see what was going on and ... things were ok.

So, I went to this reflector for help... several folks told me to turn the 
AGC threshold Up-Up-Up til the noise was down. That worked. I have found that 
you have to use the threshold adjustment quite a lot. When I get ORION back from 
TT on Wed. I will be doing more testing, operating etc. I participate in 3 
different 20 MTR DX nets almost everyday so I have my 746 PRO and the ORION side 
by side to compare. Actually what I will be continuing to do is to use ORION 
with all of the AGC, RF gain  and NR settings to see just how good it can be!
