could be trusted to satisfy the average ham.

Stuart and all,

I also found the review to be an eye opener. I had
been
grousing that Orion's display is mono at 320x200, at
the fonts and formatting, and about the look and feel
of the manual.

Now I'm understanding that the Orion is a competition
machine, like a Sunday race car, and on race day you
don't look inside for faux wood grain or leather seats
- it's all about performance. The reviews by world
class contestors seem to be bear this out.

But it's an expensive ticket, and the ride is bound to

be on the harsh side. Now I'd expect Scott to suggest
that this Ferrari also works well as a Honda Civic
for doing the grocery run but Rick said:

........

Casual users and rag chewers will probably find the
Orion simply too expensive for their specific needs.
In addition, the casual users might get frustrated
with the Orion because they constantly have to retrain
themselves on the Orion.
.........

I am a casual operator that also enjoys contesting and
I suspect there are many more like me. But suggesting
that Orion might be a step up for a Jupiter class,
756p class, or even 7800 class is comparing apples to
oranges and probably unfair to all the radios.

I can say at this QTH, that the day a neighbor moves
in that is a ham, I'll order an Orion and thank TenTec
for the option. I would like to see a model between
the Jupe and the Orion though!

73,
