[TenTec] Yahoo reflector

Since I was one of the first Orion owners I was very interested from day one
in constructive information on the new Orion. When I heard about the Orion
reflector I decided to join, but, when I found out that membership in Yahoo
groups was required I hit delete. I have enough trouble with spam and being
sold out without adding another rung to the ladder. I simply will not do
that. If the Orion reflector were handled like Ten Tec, Towertalk and others
I would love to join in but until that time, I will get my Orion discussions
from here at the Ten Tec location. So, if anyone has some useful information
to share on the Orion, hopefully you will post it here. As someone else just
said, if we all do that then where is the need for another specialized Orion
only reflector? I agree completely with that concept. Tommy WD4K

Dear TenTec list,

I too object to Yahoo's policies, so I have taken the step of using
Sneakemail.com service to put a unique e-mail address out for Yahoo use
only.

If I get any spam with that e-mail address on it, then I'll add a filter,
or discard it and select another. This is free, or $2/month if you wish
static sneakemail.com outgoing e-mail addresses. May use same here, just
because spammers are using increasingly sophisticated bots to go through
anything they can get their hands on and turning the harvested e-mail
addresses collected into spam.

This and enabling a spam filter on my ISP finally seem to be working. What
will we have to turn to next ?

Hi All

Yahoo and the Orion email reflector is getting very interesting. I am going
to copy and paste some of the statements:

Eric K3NA wrote>>>>>Yahoo's privacy policy has improved over the last couple
of years. But this is part of Yahoo's privacy statement that I object
to:

"Yahoo! does not rent, sell, or share personal information about you ...
except ... under the following circumstances:
We provide the information to trusted partners who work on behalf of or with
Yahoo! under confidentiality agreements. These
companies may use your personal information to help Yahoo! communicate with
you about offers from Yahoo! and our marketing partners.<<<<<<

Jim Reid KH7M wrote>>>>>If you believe one is necessary, then go to it,
and MUCH
luck and success! Go to it, Eric, K3NA!

I will delete this group in just a moment if you should do
so!<<<<<<

Phil W9XX wrote>>>>>I would like to be on that reflector but will not for
the very same reasons
as stated below. It's a shame that reflector isn't with contesting.com.<<<<<

and now I say---Ok we have this reflector, I do not like Yahoo and will not
be on it for all the above reasons. As I said earlier, I will pick up my
Orion at the Ten-Tec Hamfest next week and will post to this reflector only.
If everyone that does not like Yahoo Orion Reflector does the same then we
do not need someone like KH7M to be on duty 24/7. We will not have our info
given to others for there use and we will get the needed info.

Back in the wood work.

I subscribe to over 30 groups on Yahoo and this privacy thing is no big d=
eal
What information does Yahoo have? A log-in name and an email address tha=
t I
use only for access to the groups. Big deal. Specialized lists tend to be
more appropriate as you don't receive messages that do not particulary
interest you. For example, I may not be interested in reading about a
Corsair if I have a Jupiter.=0D
 =0D
When one claims that a new list is being started because "someone wants t=

be in control" or is a "control freak" can have similar comments made "th=

don't want a new list because that means they are losing control".=0D
 =0D
I was always surprised that there was one TenTec list when there are so m=

Jupiter, Argonaut and now Orion groups.=0D

In summary, I just don't see why anyone would be upset about a group

de Joe, aa4nn,
I had similar lockup using CW with OmniVI+ and Titan. I don't use TX EN =
TX OUT lines. Output from CW keyer goes to Titan Key-In. Titan Key-Out =
goes to Omni's Key-In. Also input (in parallel) to Titan Key-In is a =
keying line from a PC's LPT1 port which is keyed by contesting software. =
I believe the lockup problem to be RF related but not necessarily due =
to poorly shielded keying lines. Something in the PC. Lockup would =
occur only on 20 meters and only when the yagi was pointing 300-360 =
degrees. <Ctl-Alt-Del> kills the PC and kills the lockup. Later I =
found if I just reduce RF drive to the Titan the lockup would release, =
no need to kill the PC. hmmmm My fix was to not point the yagi =
thataway.

The LPT1 keying interface was built directly onto a DB-25 connector with =
no shielding. Adding by-pass caps to the circuit did not help. It =
never occurred to me to try a different key line from the cheap audio =
cable I was using. I can't do further tests now because there's a =
different PC here, and I can't even get a printer to work off LPT1, much =
less a keying circuit.

  Hi all,

I posted a message a few days ago about a problem with my Omni VI and
Titan getting locked in TX. The problem seems to be related to RF =
pickup
by the QSK control cables between the Omni and the Titan. I thought I
had solved the problem, only to have it happen again tonight. I am
expecting that better quality cables will solve the problem. Another
detail I discovered tonight is quite interesting: I turned on another
receiver to monitor my signal, heard my signal where it should be when =
I
key the Omni. When not keyed, and locked up by the RF into the QSK
cables problem (I presume) I did not hear my signal, even though the
Bird 43 wattmeter is indicating the same power output as when keyed. I
do not have a spectrum analyzer, or other way to quickly see where (in
frequency) the RF is, and I am certainly not going to let this =
continue
while I tune the other receiver around to find it. Better just to fix
  it. Interesting though.

I recently purchased a Pegasus (my first HF rig). I want to get a tuner. I
not sure what is the best solution. I'm not sure what antenna's I'll be
using (in the process of selecting). On the tuner options I'm considering
the internal LDG PT-11P, the external LDG AT-11MP, and the SGC 239. All of
these seem to be about the same price, but the SGC has the option of tuning
balanced lines without a balun. Any recommendations?

Thanks for the advice,

Glenn

My Yahoo email account dumped this message in my Bulk

can't see why it picked this message out of many
similar ones.

I have heard that some rigs are experiencing blown out finals when using =

The LDG PT-11P works extremely well with the pegasus.

I never understood why there had to be a separate Orion group in the first
place. I never knew until today that there were mail lists for the other
new TT rigs. Since most Orion/Argonaut/Jupiter/Peg mail has the rig name
somewhere in the subject line, you can identify them and delete them without
reading them if you're not interested. That's what I do (well, I skip past
them on the archive page since that's how I read the list--over the web)
since as a non-owner I'm not extremely interested in Orion et al.

That's a bad idea. Built in conflict of interest! And Jim says it's a l=
ot
of work -- Ten-Tec would have to assign an employee to the task.

It's not necessarily a conflict of interest - the owners of Elecraft oper=

the Elecraft reflector quite successfully. I also moderate a yahoo reflec=

and we have had zero problems with spam, etc. =

Hello all, does anyone know if Ten Tec made a grey version of the 238 A
tuner before upgrading to the B vesion which is black only. I'm in the
market for a backup tuner, but I want a grey one if possible to match my
Omni 6+ station. I would also like to get away from the bar dial string
design of the early 238 as sooner or later my string will break. Replies
appreciated. 73, Todd
