[TenTec] Omni D problem

I am trying to help a young missionary friend with a Omni D (series B from
what I can tell from a distance) with a problem. The transmitter keeps
intermittently shutting down, even when running only about 25 watts (at
least that is what he thinks he is running). It has been a long time since I
have owned an Omni D, and since I am so forgetful, I need help in what could
be causing this. He has checked his feed line to a triband beam he is using
and all seems to be fine. The rig was at his remote location when he got
there, along with the antenna and feedline. Does the Omni D meter read
relative power out only, or does it also read SWR or reflected power? Hoe
does the drive and alc control interact? What could cause this problem other
than high SWR? Any insight will be appreciated.- Dan N5NBK
