Barry, The drop in receive audio is very noticeable when there is no signal
in the pass band  and you roll the BW from 380Hz down to 190Hz. However,
when there are signals of moderate to strong strength you don't notice the
drop. It is only when there is a very weak signal in the passband that the
500HZ roofing filter seems to attenuate or "squash" the signal. If my
roofing filter isn't bad ( which it could be) then it would be better to
turn the 500HZ filter off for weak signal work.  Toby W4CAK
