To Vic, Jim and all who have replied!

Thanks for your time and your info. This has been an interesting quest
for information. Sometimes a bit confusing. However, yesterday my search
really paid off and I received an email from Jack Giehl. I'm including
his email comments below:

    Jerald,
Thanks for the email. I can understand your confusion concerning
the version numbers for the chips. Looks like I need to update my
web page! The Paragon Giehl chip 3.0 is the latest version of the
chip for replacing the TenTec 3.8 or 3.9. TenTec redesigned the PLL
board for the Paragon because they could no longer obtain some of
the IC's used on the original board. The TenTec version was changed
to 4.0 to support this new board. The Giehl chip that supports the
new board is V6.1. There is no performance difference between the
3.0 and 6.1 chips, only the support for the board is different. The
boards also work about the same, so there is no reason to switch
from one board to the other.

So, with your V3.0 chip, you have the latest software.

     Hope this explanation helps.

     73,

     Jack, WB8BFS

I have the full Giehl chip manual addendum for the version 3.0 chip. If
there is an interest I can scan these pages and make them available to
anyone with the chip but not the information. Let me know.
