Use the key loop if you want to do true QSK, use AMP
KEY if you want to do pseudo-PTT (with the help of EXT
T/R delay and CW QSK delay in the menus).  From what
I've seen, the Orion does a good job of not hot-keying
on the AMP KEY line.

"Anyone know why TenTec supplies an accessory cable
that's only 5 pins, so doesn't include something as
basic a FSK connection, but does include the pin
that's a spare?!"

I sure wish they would supply R audio output on the
cable.
