[TenTec] Color of Radios

Ron,

Let's not choose on "looks alone".
We must also consider "function".

I think you mean the old SR-150 series or rigs or maybe even the
HT & SX seperates.
Yes, they "looked" great, but as I said, in dim light, nothing
beats the Argonaut/Triton.

Actually, wasn't the very first Omni in a similar color scheme to
the old Hellscratchers?
It's been 20+ years now since I've had one.

Sorry Rick,

The pictures look great and Ten Tec's are beautiful, but IMHO,
nothing beats
Hallicrafters Grey with Black Trim! (Although I could never care
for the
red "h" of the Northrop era, but that's another tangent)

Allan is right. Black is not beautiful on radios!

I preferred the lighter colors of the Omni VI, but liked the old
Triton IV and original Argonaut even better!

I've probably operated a dozen contests with the Argonaut set up
in a tent and using only candle light to see (backlight was
switched off to save power which was being taken from my
motorcycle battery). That's when you really "see" a difference
between a light-colored and dark-colored radio!

If you like, take a look at one of my portable setups at
www.dj0ip.de (opening picture).
I bet this QTH rivaled Yuri's for good take-off!
