The minions have spoken. The Omni VI is a reluctant faulty pretender to the
throne of the realm of the classics. Just another wannabe. But he is a
cousin to the prince and as such held in high esteem. On paper he is a
thoroughbred but compromises were made along the way to mitigate his chances
to get the crown.

He is still welcomed in contests and field days but quietly comments are
made behind the tent that will one day relegate his status to be in geezer's
ops shacks who only do cw. His only real fault was that he failed to raise
the hormone level by a few db in the many users who gave him a shot. Crystal
filtering and mixing thought to be the cure for humdrum performance was
quickly outdone by the advent of DSP engines. Colorful displays now
proliferate and snapshots of the band aid in getting the op up in the ozone
where he truly belongs. Radio electronics is a fast moving world and lord
help you if you do not keep up.

Seen in the broadest context the Omni VI was better than its predecessors
and held
a respectable market share with its contemporaries and is still thought of
by many as one of the good ol' boy's rigs. Flowers are welcome but the
family requests that donations to the 'Smooth Radio Foundation' in Tennessee
be made in his memory.
