         The 1 kHz filter skirts are not very sharp since it's a 4-pole
and has a 4.7 shape factor, but your idea is correct.  See graphs down
the following page which illustrate your point (but using the Inrad 762.

Orion's standard 6000, 2400 and 1000 are all 4-pole filters, as is the
Inrad 762.  For a roofing filter, this is all that is required since
DSP filters provide sharper filtering further down the IF chain.
