Hi Jim and congrats on getting an Orion,
I think what Ten Tec is telling you is that the Orion is quite
different from other ham radios, and it really requires reading the
manual, several times, and understanding what they are telling you.
I've been a ham for a very long time, but read the Orion manual
three seperate times, and still often had to refer back to it pretty
often. The Orion is not just a radio you turn on and operate, you
really have to LEARN how to use it to get the most from it. Once you
do learn the control functions and the basic's of what the radio can
do for you, you will be quite pleased with it's receiver and SSB
performance.
Good luck with it and above all, enjoy it!!

Subject: [TenTec] Orion on the way
I had good luck getting my Orion sooner than the Feb date expected.
When I called to see when I could expect to get an Orion w/o tuner
they said early Feb probably. Then I ask if by chance there were
any demo units in stock and I was in luch they had 1 w/o tuner just
like I wanted so I bought it before is disapeared. 3168.80 shipped!
. I assume there is no disadvantage to buying a demo. Same
warranty as new. I should have it Friday night. I assume they ship
UPS ground. They said they hoped i could figure out how to operate
it since some have had problems understanding how to use a complex
radio. I can't see it being that hard. Any first tips appreciated
though!
