The radio defaults to a very low contrast setting after a master reset.
Have you adjusted the contrast?  Mine is as crisp and clear as you could ask
for, and looks every bit as good as the ad.

As for as color is concerned, we've all made friends (or enemies!) of one
camp or the other after long and not always congenial discussions on the
topic.

My take:   you want color? Use thin water colors and paint the screen ...
