As a beginner I spent 3 years with a Hallicrafters S-19R, wide as a barn
and full of images... learned a lot about MENTAL selectivity at that time,
which is a valuable asset to have. :-) The direct conversion RX is much
cleaner (with no +910 kHz images) and the RIT allows listening to the other
side of zero beat to evade some QRM. I would have been "in heaven" as a
young ham if I had had a C-21.
Not mentioned previously was "maintenance." The C-21 is so simple...
minimum alignment, small parts count, less to go wrong....
Currently, I have a C-21 parked on 3577 for the nightly Buckeye TFC net.
(so I put my money where my mouth is...) :-)
My Corsair II and Paragon are for general ham and MARS work.
You know the syndrome here.... a separate rig for each freq and mode! :-)
