I also was very pleased as I listened around on SS. Great performance,
again, especially on cw, again, as usual.
I have noticed the same phenomenon but with the DSP noise reduction button.
Sometimes, rarely, I'll notice severe DSP noise reduction on an otherwise
quite situation and realize that even tho it says it's off, it's not.
Usually pushing the button to enable and pushing it again to disable will
cancel the DSP. Have not had to do any kind of reset to get it back to
normal.
I have not experience the same thing as BV with the noise blanker, however.

Subject: [Orion] Orion Hardware NB bug from N6BV
Just noticed the following in N6BV's Sweepstakes writeup:
"I discovered that the "Hardware NB" (noise blanker) in the Orion doesn't
actually shut off when the front-panel button say "off" -- I discovered this
about 5 hours into the contest when I had to put 18 dB of attenuation in the
front end to prevent terrible buckshot noise. Turning the Hardware NB off
from
the receiver menu cured that problem. Otherwise, the Orion performed
beautifully. It's a keeper."
Not sure which firmware rev Dean was using but I suspect 1.372.
