William,  It is interesting you have become so emotionally involved with a
company from which you have never bought anything from,  or used any of
their equiptment. I can understand how it must look to you looking at all
this from the "outside".

I would suggest you get a receiver and listen to the ham bands for a while
and see what fun and excitement this great hobby offers you. Some how you
have stumbled on a reflector where guys tend to vent their frustrations over
issues with a rig they have purchased.  It has absolutely nothing with how
you will enjoy the hobby should you decide to get your license.

Also,  this is not a hateful, nasty group as the previous poster has
inferred.  This comment is also off base,  and just adds to your concept of
hams in general.  If I were wanting to get into the hobby,  I certainly
would not start off by monitoring a reflector where individuals who have
bought a particular rig were discussing the pros and cons of that rig.

The real action is on the ham bands and that is where I would spend my time
if I were you, not on relfectors. Also,  there are a lot of hams who would
be glad to take you under their wings and give you the kind of help and
information you need in order to get into the hobby. Hams in general are a
loving and generous group of people,  and many would do anything for you if
you ever needed help.

I hope this helps you to find your way into this wonderful and exciting
hobby....but definitely get off any reflectors and find a ham friend or two
to guide you into the hobby.

Wil, don't let those on the TenTec list deter you from getting a
license.  They are not representative of amateurs in general.  You will
have to look long and hard to find a more hateful nasty group.  If I can
