With a Yaesu exciter I switched from 30 meters to 20 meters and hit my amp with 200 watts drive. That mistake cost me $1600. I have noted the "orderly" rise of the power level on Orion 1, and thought maybe it was a "feature" to keep a clutz like me from hitting an Alpha 87a with more than it could handle before protective circuitry takes over.
