As I recall the Yeasu FT-101 series had AM mode and was very popular with
CB'ers.
I was into CB radio in my high school days (60's) and wish just one of my
friends was into ham radio as I would have goten into becoming one a lot
sooner.
I remember visiting my granpaw who had a big floor console radio and I would
spend my time there tuning thru the shortwave bands listining to hams talk
on AM.
Alas ...all my friends that did any radio at all were CB'ers so it was much
later before I earned my ham ticket.
I bet a lot of hams have roots in CB.
After all ... radio is radio.
