Yep the axle grease dries out and gets hard. Use a snythetic grease and that will not happen.

You mentioned to call John at Ten Tec to get a rebuild kit for  the PTO. Do 
you know what typically goes bad in the PTO circuit to  cause the warble on 
signals? And do you know John's last name?
 
Any help you can give me will be appreciated.
