Buck, as a minimum, you must replace the pins on the jack inside the Orion
and on the power cable. I don't think cleaning and bending pins will be a
long-term fix.

I have used the Orion in 48 hour contests and did not have this problem.
Ten-Tec has used this same type of plug for 25 years, maybe longer, and it
has always worked.

So it sounds to me like you must have used the radio once when the plug was
not seated well, causing the contacts to burn. If it has burned once,
replace it, or at least the pins!

Personally, I wish Ten-Tec would break with tradition and replace the jack
with something better - as elecraft has done with its K2/100.

Subject: [TenTec] Orion power Connector - A Weal Link

Anyone else have trouble with their power connector?

I think the thing is horribly undersized/underrated. I had trouble from the

beginning and ditched the wimpy wire that came with the Orion and am using
the power cable that came with an Argo V - surprisingly enough the Argo (a
20w
rig) cable was beefier than the cable that came with my Orion!

Problem is the low-budget 2 pin jack that goes into the radio. Mine gets
hot and the pins are black. Now the power will cut off on me when it
starts to
transmit. I can go back and wiggle it around, expand the slots in the pins

in the jack to make it fit tighter, but it works loose after time and
starts
acting up again.

Any fixes? Am I the only one?
