[TenTec] Mono plug into rear EXT SPKR Orion II

I want to plug into the rear EXT SPKR jack of my Orion II when it arrives with a mono 1/4 inch plug to feed the Timewave 599zx.

Using this rear speaker outlet, EXT SPKR.  will it be acceptable to use a 1/4 inch mono plug or do I need to use a 1/4 inch stereo plug using only  the tip and base with nothing connected to the ring of the stereo plug.
