[TenTec] 307 Speaker

I ordered a 307B to match my OII the other day and was very disappointed
when I hooked it up. The sound it produced was hollow and tinny, and I had
to increase the volume control significantly compared to the internal
speaker and the Icom speaker I had been using. After a day or so trying to
convince myself it wasn't so bad, I remembered a previous experience with a
"matching" speaker (different manufacturer) some years ago. Used the same
"fix," and it worked perfectly. I removed the top "clam shell" from the
speaker enclosure (10 tiny screws!) and placed a foam backed cardboard
baffle about 2.5 - 3 inches behind the speaker magnet. Made the baffle by
gluing 1" cushioning foam glued to a piece of thin cardboard, the cardboard
side toward the speaker. Replaced the clam shell top, and all was better.
Full and rich sound and little difference between volume settings used for
the other speaker(s) and the 307. Thought some of you might find this
helpful.
