[TenTec] CW on Corsair II

Paul,
Do you have the vfo in / out on the back of the rig connected together? If
not, your VFO is not connected to the rig and you'll get no output. Also,
if your using an external keyer, do you have it connected to the Key (not
Keyer out) jack on the back? If using the internal keyer, you need to
connect the Keyer out to the Key jack. When I sent my Corsair II in for PTO
rebuild, it came back missing both of these shorting plugs, so I'm well
aware of the problem.

To use the spot switch, tune in a station so you hear the cw signal. Press
spot and turn the VFO until you get a zero beat (ie: no tone). When you
release the spot button, you will now hear the cw tone and it will be
exactly in the middle of your passband for your installed filters.

Subject: [TenTec] CW on Corsair II

I just got my Corsair II back from Ten Tec for a PTO rebuild and
check up - so I'm sure it works. I never operated the rig before -
sent it to Ten Tec as soon as I got it - so I must be missing
something simple in the setup. I plugged in my Kent key with 1/4
inch stereo adapter (tested that combination on an MFJ keyer) to the
"keyer paddle" jack in the back. When I turn the switch to CW and
push the paddle one way or the other I get nothing - no side tone, no
meter reading in FWD position. Does this require an external T/R
switch or something else I am missing?

For SSB I hoped I could use the 706 mic that came with the ArgoV. But
it doesn't seem to trigger much either. Following the manual, I put
the mode switch on Lock and adjusted the drive till the ALC (ALC
control fully CW) flickered. Then I switched over to SB-N and called
CQ. I adjusted the ALC to about 1 O'clock position to get it to
flicker. The FWD power would hover around 10W.

So maybe the 706 mic isn't compatible with the Corsair II? Maybe
there is some additional switch that need to be set for CW. I haven't
adjusted the Side tone volume/tone thumb wheels under the unit and I
haven't tried going through an external keyer to the Key RCA yet.

Finally, what should I expect when I push the Spot button? In
yesteryear I'd expect some kind of tone used to zero beat or listen
for a 750Hz note that appears, according to the manual, to be the
fixed CW offset.

I have operated other gear before - just don't know how this Corsair
should respond. If I sent it in for a PTO rebuild and InRAD and
TenTec filter install, and checkout, I'm sure it would come back
ready to go. Just can't find that "go" switch. What simple thing am I
missing?

Thank you and 73,
Paul

PS: Corsair lovers or wantabe lovers watch this space. Once I verify
all is working fine, I might sell it with full filter compliment,
matching speaker power supply, and the rare external VFO for dual RX.
