John,
For what it's worth, the AN and NOTCH controls on at least one Orion  
software version work well.  When I tune to 7.251, my Orion 2 running  Version 2.037j 
takes out the heterodyne from 7.250 very well.  
There must be something quirky in the rig or the software  version.
I know this doesn't directly help you (and I surely don't want to appear to  
be gloating), but you can tell Ten Tec that your notch functionality is poor  
compared to other Ten Tec users'.

I tried the AN on 7.251 since I knew that there was a  foreign broadcast
station as 7.250.  Neither the AN nor the NOTCH had  any effect.  I then
tuned the dial to be sure that I needed 1000Hz for  the manual notch.  When I
came back to 7.251, both the AN and NOTCH  worked!  I am going to have to see
if I can find a pattern and if so,  I will send it to Ten-Tec.
