[TenTec] tuning and transmiting the delta 580

i have the drive set to about 5 and the alc set to 8 - i can adjust the swr 
down to 1 on 20 meters - but do i leave the alc knob pulled out and then 
switch the toggle to ssb?? i think the mic might be bad.
