OOps, Jerry is right, you have to figure the transformer ratio to pick the 
right bucking transformer to use.

I have received further comments from Motorola ex two way veterans, and some 
of the power supplies were said to have the magnetically regulated 
transformer.  Others had encountered conventional transformers.  Certainly, 
the series diodes to drop excess voltage would be a universal solution.
