Hi Bob,

Happy New Year to you!  I and many others have simply reflowed the solder on the major loop board and never had the problem return.  I did mine in 1993 and have had no more problems.  I would certainly do this as a first pass fix rather than run the risk of damaging an out of production board.

Just my $.02 worth.
