[TenTec] Antenna Tuners...questions

Well I have the Palstar, the LDG 1000 and the MFJ. I
just wonder if anybody looks inside ham gear any more.
The Palstar looks like a 1.5 kw tuner, but neither
the LDG or MFJ look like they can handle power .
There is a vast difference between the Palstar and
both the MFJ and LDG.

The MFJ and LDG are lumped parameter designs using
relays to switch components, while the Palstar uses a
large inductor and capacitor with stepping motors.
So yes the Palstar is slower, but it has a wonderful
memory algorithim. The relay clanking in the LDG and
MFJ works, but you better use low power to tune or
else you will be buying relays.

Sure I read the articles but the are many factors that
need to go into a buying decision.

I will just end it with these thoughts

I use the Palstar at the output of my AL-1500. It
will trim SWR at that power level. The other two will
not even do that.

Additional antenna position...Who needs that....I use
an external multi-position antenna switch, with one
position used to ground everything...just in case..
which is how the station is left when I am not in the
shack
