Hi Martin,
You didn't mention the rig you use with the CM-500 headphones, but if it's a later model TENTEC (i.e. JUPITER, OMNI V11 or either of the ORION'S, you can turn the internal keyer off from the menu and plug your PTT keyer directly into the CW jack on the front of the rig. Another option is to run a pigtail from your 8 pin mic connector with a standard mono jack and plug your PTT into that.
The bottom line, I've used the YAMAHA CM-500 headset on my ORION 11 for some time now and ALL audio reports have been excellent. (as good or better than my ELECTROVOICE RE-27@ about $450-500). Any HEIL headset at any price does not compare in performance or value.
