Yes, FD has evolved into a contest.  However, like all contests, not 
everybody competes seriously.  Some do, and go all out to win.  Others just dip 
their toes in and have fun.  All are welcome.  Jim's club tries to win.  Ours 
just  wants to provide an opportunity for members, many of whom live in HOA 
subdivisions, to get out and get on the air.  Both seem like valid 
objectives to me, even if the same entry can't do both.
