The display when transmitting seems to be at least 30 or 40 db
higher than when receiving. If one changes the offset to accommodate
this, I don't notice much if any distortion, but there are spikes
(not hundreds, but between 15 and 100 perhaps). So, I don't bother
doing the accommodation. When transmitting, the trace just moves
pretty much off the top of the screen without the accommodation.

I don't notice a distorted display with the preamp on either.
Everthing is just shifted up 12 db or so.
What kind of distortion are you seeing with the preamp on?

The -14.06 khz spur seems to be around -62 dbm.

For the Orion, I'd recommend anyone using the P3 upgrade
the firmware to 1.11 on it. That was just released
the end of last week and it fixes a bug that really needs
fixing if you are using an Orion with it. The indicated marker frequencies
are garbage if the marker is below the receive frequency with
the 1.09 firmware which was current from early last summer
until last week. They fixed that with 1.11. When using
the P3 with a non Elecraft transceiver, the frequencies
are displayed as relative offsets to zero (zero is the
indicated receive frequency).
