That is exactly why you should keep your current rig and enjoy it 
without reservation as long as it continues to work.   Just like your 
favorite car.  If it does what you want it to do, and is comfortable, 
then your should continue to use the vehicle until it dies and cannot be 
repaired.   In the mean time you can save your money for your next rig, 
which you will purchase when the fateful day you can no longer maintain 
your current rig, finally arrives.   At that time, you can buy as much 
rig as you can, and repeat the process.   My wife and I both do this 
cars - we have each owned cars for as as long as 14 years.  All the 
financial magazines say this is the most economical approach.  In the 
mean time, we save money so that we can buy the next one with cash.

Why not apply the same principle to our radios.  If the rig does what 
you want, there is no reason to buy another one.  After all, I believe 
the point of ham radio is COMMUNICATION, and if you can accomplish that 
with your current rig, then you have all the radio you need - and with 
no worries about your radio, you can concentrate on the conversation.  I 
think too many guys think the point of ham radio is to own a better 
radio than the other guy - forgetting the point is to have a 
conversation with some bloke nearly half way around the world.  That is 
my point of departure with the hi-fi audio crowd... I believe some guys 
worry more about how good they sound, than they do about the quality of 
what they are saying.   So, if the rig is adequate, you can concentrate 
on having something interesting to say.
