Well, here is my [inverse?] Keesler story...

I was in the Air National Guard from 1970 to 1976 as an "avionics" tech 
(forgot the actual MOS).

Basically I had two choices: either go to Biloxi for a 1 year tech 
school -- or take a "Specialist Bypass" test. To make a long story 
short, I passed the test with only one wrong and thus did not have to 
attend the school. Nothing against Biloxi, but it -was- nice to not have 
to go to school for a year.

Hey, somebody had to keep those Korean war vintage RF-84s flyin'. :-)
