Interesting that some 1225's work better at extreme range than others.
I wonder if there were some parts substitutions by Ten Tec over the 
years of production?  I have had mine for many  years.

I think when I was testing 2 meters I was using a HT, so minimal coaxial 
cable was involved.  The dummy load was an MFJ coaxial input dry type 
dummy load.  Or I may have used some BNC dummy loads on short, (very 
short) duty cycle.  Oh, And I have always used mine with internal 
battery, NOT an external power supply.  I could see an external supply 
causing you to get stray signals into the pickup circuits when above the 
rated frequency range.
