[TenTec] The Next Flagship

My problem with no "Flagship" rig offering by Ten-Tec revolves around
the fact that it must be very hard (perhaps impossible) to produce in
the U.S. a transceiver selling for under $2K and still make a profit.
I should guess, for example, that the profit margin for the new
Argonaut is razor-thin. Does it return enough to cover the sunk costs
of development?
Going to a higher price point (say $3K and up) would seem to give the
company the opportunity for extracting a decent profit from the sales,
it seems to me. So I come down on the side of those who think a
"Flagship" offering would be wise. Also, of course, being limited to
sales in the U.S. and only to the ham community seems a big deficit to
overcome. But what do I know?
As Jim's friend noted about the Eagle's ergonomics, the latest
offerings border on the quirky. I've owned both an Eagle and a TS-590,
and sold both. So what do I know?
Say what you will, I miss Scott Robbins. I liked what T-T was
producing when he was around.
