INCOMING SUN: Sunspot 9672 produced another X1-class solar flare on Oct. 25th at 1500 UT. Shortly after the flare, which triggered a strong (R3-class) radio blackout across the Americas and western Europe, a lopsided halo coronal mass ejection emerged in SOHO coronagraph images (pictured right). The expanding cloud will likely strike Earth's magnetic field on Oct. 27th or 28th and possibly trigger Northern Lights.
