Friends in Radio Land,

You probably saw the announcement of the DXpedition by Joerg, DL8WPZX, on
the Reflector this morning. The date of the operation is from February
23 to March 9, 1998.

The point of this message is to call your attention to the fact that this
will be an UNUSUAL situation as the antipodal point for Chatham Island
(44S, 178W) is in southern Europe (44N, 2E), southern France to be
particular. In that regard, it resembles the VK0IR DXpedition as there
will be a "dead zone" associated with it, a region where D-region
absorption will overpower signals from ZL7. For the VK0IR DXpedition,
the region was very large, covering more than 5 times the area of Texas.
In the present case, the "dead zone" is a small area in Africa, centered
on Ghana and Nigeria. (Check your mapping program for details.)

With the antipodal point in a region of intense Top Band activity, the
DXpedition promises to produce interesting observations related to
contacts and SWL reports. In the most elementary terms, this could
be an incredible propagation experiment and the participation of all is
requested. But be sure to first check times of sunrise and sunset, as
appropriate, and then be complete in your observations, giving

			Date
			Time
			Antenna
			Direction
			Comments

Please give us the benefit of your observations; it will be important to
Top Band DXing! VERY IMPORTANT!!!

Thanks for your kind consideration, all the best and 73,

Bob, NM7M
