I have been lurking in the background watching this reflector. I have
also been listening on the band. I am using an inverted "L" for xmtg and
rcving. Unfortunately at the moment it is only 30 + ft vertical. I have
50 radials under it. I hope to get the vertical part to 50 ft this
weekend if the wx is good. I heard GM3POI last night and he came back
first call to my 500 watts. I monitor packet and also listened intently
to QSOs which were all one sided for me (Hrd only US side). Frustrating.
I live on a small hill top :) about 80 feet above an Interstate hwy. I
can run a beverage along the top of the ridge above the Interstate for
quite a ways (500' --> 1,000'). The direction for me would be 60 deg
one direction and 240 deg the other). My lot is 100' wide and 275' deep.
Would a loop around the perimeter of the yard be just as good ? I
thought I would use a small MFJ tuner that I have in conjunction with an
MFJ swr analyzer that a friend of mine has to match the beverage to the
coax run. Should I go to a balun ?
Any comments would be appreciated. I got to hear better ! ! !
Thanks
