Joe,  Regarding the common mode issue:  Would a choke coil constructed
of 30 inches of 2" PVC with RG8X or RG-58 provide sufficient isolation?
What if the coax to the shack is tri-ax with the outer shield floating
at one end to form a Faraday shield.  (It wouldn't take much to tape and
wrap some foil on the outside of coax if tri-ax is not available)  I
offer this possibility as some in remote areas may find the proper core
material to make an efficient transformer.
