The discussion about matching and core materials for beverages is interesting 
and i want to add my comments.I like to go straight forward in component 
design.I pick up core materials at swapmeets,build identical transformers and 
check their VSWR.If they are OK i connect them back-to back and measure RF 
voltages at the input and output.Thus it is easy to calculate the loss thru two 
devices and easy to divvy it up.I use my beverages from 1.8 to 10 mc and i used 
different materials.They sure have substantial differences.Best results were 
obtained using ferrite rods from AM radios.No pickup of any substantial noise 
from open rods.Good luck homebrewing !
