Topband: Noise source problem

    I ran into a noise problem that I don't recall seeing mentioned on
    the reflector before. So, perhaps this will be a useful tip.

    A significant broadband noise above S9 was heard most
    of the time in the last few weeks. While, by listening on various
    antennas, it seemed to be closer to the house, turning off everything
    in the house did not remove it.

    A portable AM radio found the noise to be apparently coming from
    the kilowatt/hour meter on the outside of the house. 

    To my amazement, the power company came out the very next day
    and replaced it. The noise is now gone. :-)
