 When we are using these cores for receiving, why don't we simply use
latching relays --I do. A single, short, relatively high (40 ma) pulse is
enough to switch the relay state and after that little or no current is
required. By charging a large capacitor to supply the current and using a
series resistor to drop the voltage to the capacitor one can dump the
charge, switch the relay and limit the resting current down the coax line.
