Topband: mediocre beverages or K9AY loop?

Dave,

Maybe you should do both Beverages and loops.

I am a big fan of Beverages -- and I've had acceptable results with them as
short as 350 feet (longer is better, of course). At the previous QTH, I had
350-footers NE and NW, and filled in the rest with my K9AY loops.

If you have some room, but not in the right directions, phased K9AY loops,
Pennants or Flags might be an option for certain key directions.

See "Low Band DXing" by ON4UN (ARRL books) to get an idea of your options.
John's book has lots of info on Beverages, loops, phased antennas, etc.

Being new to topband, I'm trying to decide what would make
better receives antenna for 160m (and 80m as well).

I could put up 2 beverages, but am limited in the directions
I can go. One would be due north, and the other straight
east (I know, not ideal). The north one could be about 600',
but would have to go through trees, then up to the 15-20'
level to go over a driveway, then back down, and it might
have a very slight bend as well. The one going east could be
over 1000' long, but would have a slight curve near the middle.
Feedpoint of both would be fairly close to xmit antenna.
Would those bevs even be worthwhile???

Other option would be K9AY loop (dual-loop AYL-4),
which could be located much further from the xmit ant.

Thoughts?

Thanks & 73,
