Greg,

If a cage is used to shunt feed a 1/4 wave vertical grounded tower, I 
think grounding the cage at the base during RX with a relay would 
decouple a significant portion of the tower at the RX frequency.  I 
haven't tried it but I think I will since several Beverages are within 
50 feet of my shunt feed tower.

A relay opening the vertical
element to any matching components or coax can stop
the re-radiation. I'm not sure how to make it go away
with a shunt fed arrangement.
