Hi Jon,
You should come to Hawaii in the wintertime to appreciate the climate.
Summer to winter temp varies 12 degs. Honolulu is on the leeward side so it
is even hotter. Not as hot as new England though.
Anyway, be sure and bring 2 meters with you so you can find out what the
hams are up to. Here on the Big Island we have a ham lunch every friday at
the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel and would be delighted to see you both.
You are asking the wrong person about life on Oahu. It is a alien land for
me as four islands removed from me and directly behind a 14,000 ft mt from
me so I never hear anything from them except on 160m and there is nobody
that operates 160m there except in contests.
I never operate 2 meters, but everybody else does and I know there is 2
meter link between the islands.
The vast majority of hams are on Oahu so you should have no trouble catching
a 20m big gun on the band to investigate their life style.
Where have you been lately? I work w8ji, w2jb and that is about all I have
worked on 160 this summer. I guess you folks have plenty of noise this time
of year on 160m?
I have a habit of placing the rx on 160m scan when reading or playing with
the computer in the shack and lately I have been staying up until 01:30
local. I hear w8ji work vk3zl his every sunrise and I join in from time to
time. Tom always complains about noise and often I hear others calling Tom
that he can't pull out.
Band not great here. I have not even worked a JA in months.
KH6CC, Jack called me this morning and told me he became a conductor and not
on the railroad. The doctor is treating him for electric burns. He is not
sure what happened. He has some pole transformers and is 84 so kinda a poor
mix.
Aloha,
Bryce
