Anything would only be a guess, because a grounded tower
with the coax shield tied to it is a very unpredictable
system. Current at the attachment point divides between the
ground at the tower base and the area above the attachment
point, and those two paths are not in any predictable
current or phase relationship. The radial would also be a
major source of radiation.

I don't know how anyone could explain why or how a system
that excites everything including every wire leaving the
tower and the dirt around the tower and under the "radial"
would work "better" than a planned system, even though it
would be very interesting to know why.

How was the 2dB measured?
