Hi Don,
I run my V160HD unguyed but take it down in high winds (judged as the
point at which it looks more like an inverted L than a vertical!). However
I noticed a split in the second joint from the top when inspecting it
before this season. I spoke to Dr. Szabolcs at Titanex and he seemed
surprised I had a problem. Nevertheless, I reinforced that joint with a
jubilee clip but suspect there is some weakness there. I'm also puzzled as
to why there is a piece of nylon rope running down the very top section -
maybe that absorbs wind vibrations in some way?
Dave, G3UEG has a modified V160HD that is guyed to 75ft and then has a
fibre glass pole with a wire taped to it taking the overall height to
105ft. I know he discussed this design and guying with Titanex before doing
this and his top section(s) are much thicker than ours.
I don't think I would put fibre glass inside the top sections, but maybe
replace them with a fibre glass pole rather like G3UEG did.
Correspond off line if you want picture of how mine split or Dave's info.
