>From a noise point of view, it doesn't matter -- there simply isn't enough 
loss at 1.8 MHz. The only reason I can think of that remote mounting would be 
better is if the input of the preamp is at an impedance significantly 
different from that of the cable that comes into the shack -- that is, if it 
has to do any impedance matching.
