Topband: More JA and contest

We had a rather unusual opening to JA this morning. That path normally
peaks right at sunrise (on the few days there is anything at all). This
morning the peak was 30 minutes before sunrise. I heard several JA's and
worked only one. But it was the first time I had JA's answer my CQ! I
might have had time for more if intermittent power line noise hadn't
made me struggle so long to identify JA0QNJ. The signal was fine... when
the noise was off. All JA's heard this morning were peaking on the
direct path, northwest.

I was only able to operate the second night of the contest, and
consequently missed a new one the first night. Conditions were generally
poor. To keep from getting bored I made another attempt at single night
WAS but ended up with only 48 this time. I couldn't find a ND station
and had no propagation to AK.
