Has anyone tried running two or three BOG antennas in a straight line parallel to each other (within 5 ft. of each other) and combining them together just before entering your shack ? Would that just amount to two or three of the same weak signal or would it be two to three times stronger ?

Gary, both the signal and the noise would be stronger, so there would be
no advantage. In order to gain some directivity and hence S/N
advantage, you would need broadside spacing, preferably of a half
wavelength or more. 330 ft spacing is a good figure.
