Topband: Forms for traps/coils

Does anyone have a pdf or an explanation of what size forms to use for making your own traps for verticals and/or coils for amps. 

I remember some old old QST mags where they used to have those articles all the time, but I can not remember what they suggested for
using as the coil form.

I seem to remember soup cans or coffee cans or something like that, whatever they were, they were simple household items they used
to mention back then.
